Ray Holmberg (Sherburne County Jail)
BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO PRAIRIE PUBLIC RADIO) – The chairman of the State Board of Higher Education said an internal review has found no evidence of any current employee of the University System violating policy, or failing to report any criminal activity by former State Senator Ray Holmberg.
Tim Mihalick said the review was done by the system’s chief compliance officer. He said the goal is to make sure policy or legal violations are identified, and to make any improvements to policies.
“To that end, a neutral third-party investigator will be hired to complete this investigation, the safety of our campus communities is the number one priority of the SBHE and our institutional leaders,” Mihalick told the board.
Mihalick is urging anyone with information to make a report to their local campus, or to the university system office.
The 81-year-old Holmberg, a Grand Forks Republican, was sentenced in March to 10 years in federal prison for traveling to Europe about 14 times between 2011 and 2021 to have sex with underage boys.
He remains in the Sherburne County Jail in Elk River, Minnesota while the Federal Bureau of Prisons determines where he will serve his sentence.
